How to Read Sold Comps Like a Pro

Asking prices lie. Sold prices don't. Here's how to price any card in under a minute.

The number one mistake new collectors make is pricing a card off active listings. Anyone can ask $5,000 for a card. What matters is what buyers actually paid.

Start by filtering sold listings to the exact card: same year, set, parallel and grade. A PSA 9 and a PSA 10 of the same card can be ten times apart in value.

Look at the last five to ten sales, toss out obvious outliers like auctions that ended at 3 a.m., and average the rest. That's your real market value.

Finally, check the trend. If the last three sales are all climbing, the market is moving up and you can price a little higher. On Slabline, the comp tracker charts this for you automatically.
